He Did What?

Guys,

Since this is my first post on my first blog, I want to give you a preview for what is to come. First, I can promise that I love fun facts and figures that no one knows about. Whether these are from history or sports, you will definitely get your dose of meaningless knowledge that you will probably use with your friends and family later that day. Second, I want to tell you that I plan on rotating topics and seriousness. Obviously, I don't want to bore you with serious stuff everyday or write about just one thing. Finally, I will appreciate any comments and back and forth banter. I love debating and discussing topics so don't hold back.

When I was in second grade, my teacher asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. Normally, the popular answer for any kid that age would be a firefighter, an astronaut, or just like their dad. Well, I can say that I proudly said I wanted to be President of the United States. I always have always loved history and politics and the facts that go along with them. As a fun way to get to know this amazing office, I would look up every small fact about the office. Now as a reward for you, I will present my top ten to you.

1. Eight Presidents were born as British subjects: Washington, John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, James Monroe, John Q. Adams, Andrew Jackson, and William Harrison. Which means the first true American President was good ole Martin Van Buren.

2. The Oldest president elected was Ronald Reagan at 69, and JFK was the youngest at 43. However, the youngest person to ever serve as President was Teddy Roosevelt at 42.

3. Gerald Ford was the first person to serve as President without being nationally elected to either the office of the President or Vice-President

4. The richest President to serve in the office was probably George Washington with a net worth of about 525 Million Dollars and the poorest was probably James Garfield.

5. The President that occupies the front of the dime is non other that Franklin D. Roosevelt.

6. While the President usually has a dog or a cat, there are some that had some pretty interesting ones. John Quincy Adams and Hoover both had pet alligators. Calvin Coolidge had two lions, a wallaby, a pygmy. Theodore Roosevelt kept a badger.

7. Since the end of WWII, the taller of the two main party candidates has won the election 75% of the time. Nixon, Carter, and George W. Bush are the only people to defeat a taller rival.

8. John Q. Adams was known for his customary early morning swims in the nude in the Potomac River.

9. Andrew Johnson's inauguration as vice-president was slightly different in the fact that he was incredibly drunk when he arrived.

10. Theodore Roosevelt, after being shot in an assassination attempt, gave a 90 minute speech after. The doctors decided that the bullet was too dangerous to remove, so he lived the rest of his days with it.

Well I hope you enjoyed the previous facts. I hope to write again soon.

Until Next Time,

Bradley Perry

Just A Pinch Of Salt

Gals,

When I have time, my favorite thing to do nowadays is cook! I love being able to put a bunch of random ingredients together and turn it into a delicious masterpiece!  I wouldn't say that I'm an expert in the kitchen, but I have learned a lot growing up with my father, who also enjoys cooking as one of his favorite hobbies.

Although he has taught me all of the fundamentals of cooking (including how to use a knife safely and how to avoid any other catastrophes in the kitchen), there are always those times when I feel as though I'm not the most graceful chef in the kitchen.  Everyone makes mistakes and no one is perfect!

While reading my favorite magazine yesterday (Food Network Magazine), I found that the most recent edition (May 2011) includes an entire section devoted to informing people of those helpful tips that make it easier when working in the kitchen.  I want to share just a few of my favorites with y'all:

1. If you burn yourself, dip the burn in egg whites, let it dry, then repeat 2 times.  It will hurt like crazy at first, but then the whites will form a seal and insulate the burn from heat and air, so you can keep working (without the pain).

2. For an easy weeknight meal, save and freeze leftover sauces from previous meals in ice cube trays.  The cubes can be reheated in a saute pan when you need a quick sauce.

3. Do not use oil in the water when boiling pasts: It will keep the sauce from sticking to the cooked pasta!

4. When chopping herbs, toss a little salt onto the cutting board; it will keep the herbs from flying around.

5. After working with garlic, rub your hands vigorously on your stainless-steel sink for 30 seconds before washing them.  It will remove the odor.

Well, I hope you enjoyed those fun tips as much as I did when I first read them!  You can check out the rest of these fun tips here!

Until Next Time,

Brittany

Our First Post!

As you can see, this is a shared blog between two people who just happen to be madly in love.  However, each of us will be blogging about completely different topics and ideas that interest us individually!

My name is Brittany and sitting directly next to me is my partner in crime, Bradley.  My perspective will be written from the girl's point of view and the main things that interest me today are cooking, fashion, and random tips that help me get through the day! I hope to provide tidbits of my everyday life that I find both interesting and useful to pass onto you!  Now I will transfer the reigns over to Bradley :)

My name is Bradley and I will be writing from the guy's point of view. While Brittany will have the girls entranced with her knowledge of girl things, I shall provide my take on the things that interest the regular guy. Politics, History, Sports, and trying to figure out the gentler sex are just some of the topics I shall focus on. If you ever have a topic that you would like me to look into and discuss, never hesitate to pass me a message. Well, that is enough about me. Let me turn it back over to my better half.

Well, we can't wait to get started on our new favorite hobby so please let us know what you think!

Until Next Time.
